Mississippi has numerous things to see and visit, from Civil War forts on Ship Island to Maritime Museums and Research Laboratories (casinos aren't the only thing to do). Take a drive along our white sand beach and see what you can find to explore.

the Old Biloxi Lighthouse at the foor of Porter St.
At one time, 12 lighthouses existed on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Today, only 2 remain - The Biloxi Lighthouse and the Round Island Lighthouse found in Pascagoula. This lighthouse was built using cast iron and completed in 1848, electrified in 1926, and deeded to the city about 1968. It is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

Another Small Craft Harbor along the Gulf Coast      Small craft harbors are aplenty as well as a yacht club in each city, from the Bay St. Louis/Waveland area to Pascagoula & Gautier. And on those sunny, clear days that we have so often down here, you can see the boats pouring out to enjoy the water.
the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum      Welcome to the South's Most Unique Museum Web-site. Inside, you can see a few of our exhibits, find information about sailing tours on the museum's Schooners, browse our gift shop, check out the calendar of upcoming events, and read about the Sea and Sail Adventure Camp that is ideal for schools and children.      You will love the beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They are clean and the view is largely unencumbered by buildings. The main 26-mile beach area is viewable from Beach Boulevard (U.S. Highway 90) with numerous pull-overs. Restrooms and piers have been thoughtfully provided. You will find an assortment of colorful beach chairs, sailboat and jetski vendors. Build a beach sandcastle anytime or go for the big prize money at the Sand Sculpture Contest in September.
A Sailboat on the Biloxi Beach A Long Pier Extending out on a Lonely sSretch of Beach
There are quiet areas also. Some of the beach is reserved as a nesting ground for Least Terns. Quiet beaches line the residential areas of Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, Long Beach to the west of Biloxi, and Ocean Springs, Pascagoula to the east. These areas are great for sunbathing, romantic walks, moonlight picnics, and campfires. The waters along the beach are calm. A chain of barrier islands protects our shore from storms and limits the amount of wave action that hits the beach.

the Front of Beauvoir      Visit a bygone era at the last home of the only President of the Confederate States of America. Tour the meticulously restored home and the Davis family museum, the Beauvoir family cemetery, where hundreds of Confederate soldiers were laid to rest, and the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier.

Fort Massachusetts was one of the last Third System forts constructed.
It is located on Ship Island, 13 miles south of Gulfport, Mississippi. The importance of this location is the strategic deep water harbor located near the island. It was used by the British to stage their invasion of New Orleans in the War of 1812. ftmass.jpg (20555 bytes)
